Privacy & Confidentiality Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, about which the therapist is required by law to inform the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, the therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, the therapist will make every effort to enlist the client's cooperation in insuring their safety. If the client does not cooperate, the therapist will take further measures as provided by the law, without the client's permission, in order to ensure the client's safety.

Cancellation Policy

48 hours' cancellation notification by telephone is required. The client will pay the full session fee in such a case where less than 48 hours notice is given. Payment for the cancelled session is due at the following session. Weekends are not included when calculating 48 hours; i.e. a session scheduled Monday at 9 am must be cancelled the previous Thursday by 9 am in order to not be considered a late cancellation. At the therapists discretion, exceptions may be made for emergencies.
